NONNA MARTHA

Second restaurant by Franken Architekten opens in Ingelheim

Following the "Brauhaus Goldener Engel", which Franken Architekten also designed, the "Nonna Martha" in the center of Ingelheim is the second restaurant to be run by Brauhaus Goldener Engel KG.

NM

The "Nonna Martha" concept plays on associations with down-to-earth, traditional rural Italian cuisine and is an homage to the Italian "Nonna" working at the stove. Over a surface area of 208 square meters it offers a large choice of seating at various heights and in various combinations, ranging from long tables for vibrant conversation, sofas and bar stools, to more intimate tables for two.

NM NM

All this forms part of an interior design concept whose materials feature coarse, untreated wood, tiles, and industrial enamel. All the walls boast a relief-like texture comprising dark, stained fir and oak, in contrast to the white-tiled bar and the luminaires.

NM NM

The homely, mud gray floor underscores the simple nature of the interior and adapts to the reduced color spectrum that is emphasized by a lighting concept comprising bar counters lit from below, light bulbs, and black and white pendant luminaires in various sizes. The cucina povera aesthetics is likewise emphasized in the tableware.
Franken Architekten collaborated with stereoraum Architekten at all stages of the project. The graphic concept was devised together with Surface Gesellschaft für Gestaltung mbH.

At this year's Auto China in Beijing Franken Architekten designed the fair concept for the Chinese automotive manufacturer and BMW joint-venture partner Brilliance's marques Zhonghua and Jinbei. The stand architecture was derived from traditional Chinese pattern and, on various scales, featured both as a space-defining structure and as a graphic design. Whereas the Jinbei marque presented its large vans in an open space, for the Zhonghua marque an interior courtyard surrounded by the structure was created, with the focus on the "highlight area".
