VILLA CLARA
AMERON EDITION FINE BOUTIQUE HOTEL
Franken Architekten is designing the first Althoff Group boutique hotel in Frankfurt am Main
In an existing property dating from the late 19th century in Frankfurt's renowned Westend the first Althoff Group exclusive Ameron Edition Fine Boutique Hotel will be created in Frankfurt - the Villa Clara.
The boutique hotel is centrally located directly opposite the trade-fair complex and in the immediate proximity of the main railway station. Thanks to the combination of historical building and contemporary design characteristic of the brand, Villa Clara will be the flagship of the Ameron Edition Fine Boutique Hotels.
The fine boutique hotel will have 34 rooms and suites spread across five stories, as well as a lobby and a bar. The top floor will be extended upwards with spectacular avant-garde architecture and ensures the building is highly visible from afar, with its combination of history and modernity. The design concept takes its narrative from the "Westend", a district shaped by the bourgeoisie in the first half of the 20th century and by squatters in the post-1968 period. In Prof. Bernhard Franken's concept, these contrasting temporal layers are combined by an web of architectural memories consisting of prismatic geometries and in this way contribute to the debate over the shape reconstruction should take. Contemporary design and architectural allusions to the contextual temporal layers of the genius loci, the bourgeoisie and the squatters meld to constitute a multi-temporal look.
On Nov. 26, 2010, the press conference on the project was held Wirtschaftsförderung Frankfurt, attended by Markus Frank, City of Frankfurt Municipal Councilor for Business, HR and Sports.

GERMAN DESIGN COUNCIL
01.- 04.12.2010 Exhibition on Design Germany for the German Design Council at the Business of Design Week in Hong Kong
Franken Architekten was commissioned by the German Design Council to design the "Design Germany" exhibition for the GDC. It is the German contribution to the Business of Design Week, which, moreover, announced that Germany would be guest of honor in 2011. On show were products that won prizes for their outstanding design.
Germany as an industrial nation and export powerhouse presented the selection at its own stand. The exhibition architecture consisted of stacked standard palettes and set the right tone: industrial and improvised, rational and creative, appealing and encouraging exploration. And above all sparing resources: The palettes will be used for their original purpose afterwards, to transport goods.
