"The Clash of Creative Cultures" was the motto of 2010 year's ADC Summit. Working in a collaborative team with the agencies Voss + Fischer and Surface, Franken Architekten designed the exhibition for the world’s largest creative show in Hall 5 of the Messe Frankfurt. Accordingly, the design of the exhibition space expresses this “clash” of diverse cultures in the creative landscape and is a reflection of the changing communication industry with more and more disciplines converging and a growing number of communication channels to serve, resulting in networked communication management when creating integrated communication. Franken Architekten translates these aspects in the spatial exhibition design with three-dimensional crystalline structures and open flowing spaces, which blur boundaries and dissolve hierarchies. The connotation to the urban environment forms a concrete analogy to the complexity of the networking of the disciplines. This impression is then enforced through the texture of the façade, which was designed by Surface. Consisting of scaffolding wrapped in multiple layers of interweaving textile stripes, the architectural ensemble creates a heterogeneous and self-sufficient structure, which changes and shifts between architecture and graphic through superimposition and spatial depth.

Scenography is not confined to
the stage or screen, nor just to presen-tation events and trade shows. It is a design approach, rooted in narrative, that can be applied as well to individual buildings and even to urban environments.
